On Sunday 27 September, the inaugural Coffs Coast Dragon Boat Regatta will take place on the Bellinger River in Mylestom. It promises to be a fantastic day out, whether you're taking part or just there to soak up the atmosphere.
Dragon boating is a great team sport for people of all ages and levels of fitness. The sport of dragon boating has penetrated the waterways around the world and has recently been identified as the fastest growing water sport in Australia.
Coffs Coast is already home to numerous dragon boating teams and enthusiasts, and this 200-metre regatta is open to mixed teams from the local community and schools.
To take part, get a group of 16 to 20 of your buddies or colleagues together to form a team. Paddlers need to be 12 years and over and there must be a minimum of 50% female paddlers in each team.
All equipment is provided, and Dragon Boats NSW will also provide each team with a qualified sweep/steerer and drummer.
Entry fees are $22 per person for community teams and $11 per person for school teams (ages 12-17) and include a training and safety session on Saturday afternoon 26 September. Entries close 11 September.
Even if youre not taking part, come along for a fun and action-filled day along the beautiful Bellinger River in Mylestom. Bring your family and friends to cheer on your favourite team from the riverbanks in front of the Mylestom Bowling Club.
Races start at 9am and finals will be held in the early afternoon. The regatta is expected to finish by 3pm.
